Hello Reader Last week was my son's birthday! Which also means that its been nine years since I started running my business remotely. A couple months before he was due, I decided to close down my high street location and make my nutrition business virtual. And it has worked ever since. If you are interested in having a nutrition consultation, hit the reply button and lets have a chat about how personalised nutrition plans can help you improve your health and achieve your health goals. One of my areas of speciality is helping those with Type 2 Diabetes (I even work within the NHS offering diabetes coaching). Anyhow, last week, I did eat cake a few times - one on his actual birthday and then again when we had the family over for his birthday. This weekend, after his birthday party, I will for sure have cake again! Anyone who knows me, also knows that I have a sweet tooth. And I no longer eat nearly as much sugar as I used to. In fact, my sugar intake is probably the lowest it has ever been and I no longer get tempted. Have you ever given up sugar for a period of time and then suddenly, you have something sweet and now you crave sugar again? Have you ever thought about how to stop this cycle? Have you ever wanted to give up sugar, but still want to eat your cake? The truth is, you can give up sugar, but still have it from time to time...it just doesn't have to be a part of your daily life. Think of it this way - your meals and snacks don't have any added sugars or sweeteners, but then you are out for dinner on a saturay night and you order dessert. You enjoy the dessert but find that having it once a week is enough. You actually don't need sugar in your life on a daily basis. Or how about this - its 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon and you are feeling tired and just wanting to take a nap. But you are in the office so instead you get up, make yourself a tea and have a bar of chocolate or custard creams. What if I told you that you can avoid this viscious cycle all together so that at 3:30, you may feel hungry for a snack, but you certainly do not feel tired or crave anything sweet. Then there is the evenings, after dinner around 9pm when you are watching tv and find that you are munching away on some biscuits or chocolate. What if I told you that this can also go away so that you find that you do not need to eat anything after dinner. This is all possible and you can get to this place in one week - that is all you need to create the foundation to establish healthier habits and let go of sugars and sweeteners. My holistic sugar detox course will help you eliminate the added sugars and sweeteners in your diet so that you can focus on healthier eating and living. Hello Reader Question for you. What place or room in your home is your favourite spot? Or where do you tend to gravitate towards? In my home, we all gravitate towards the kitchen. We hang out in the kitchen, do homework in there, have conversations, cook together, have family meal times and so forth. The kitchen is a place where we all come together. The kitchen holds so much healing and therapeutic energy. Think about it: Your spice rack is essentially a cabinet of home remedies The meals...
Hello Reader How are you? (Do reply to this email and let me know!) It has been quite some time since I have written and sent out a Thursday newsletter. It is a bit of a long one today, but it is worth the read! Following my announcement of starting my PhD, I took a bit of "break" from sending newsletters. I am now back with a lot more to offer! Beyond my years of work within the clinical setting, I am also now involved academically, from teaching and supervising to doing research. As it...
Hello Reader Earlier this week, I took part in a drug and alcohol training session for health care practitioners to learn more about its use and misuse. One message really stood out: there is no safe level of drinking. That’s because when it comes to alcohol, you never truly know what damage might be happening behind the scenes. If you know me, you know that I am not a particular fan of alcohol. I do not drink much and this is purely a personal choice, one that has often raised eyebrows,...
