Hello Reader Last week, I was with some family when our conversation turned toward Ayurvedic practices for wellbeing. One of them asked me a question I hear often: "Is it realistic to make these changes, like having the largest meal at lunchtime, when you are working or have other priorities?" The simple answer is, yes, of course. But I did not stop there. I went on to explain that Ayurveda is personalised because it recognises that each body is unique. For example, while one person might thrive on only three meals a day, another may need to eat every few hours. The conversation continued and I was asked a question that I have heard all too often "How do you know if you have actually digested your food well?" To answer that, we have to look at how Ayurveda views nourishment. It is not just about what you eat today. It is about how that food transforms through the seven layers of your body, known as the 7 Dhatus. This is where I feel the classic saying "you are what you eat" really comes from. The Seven Layers of You In Ayurveda, nutrition is like a series of interconnected pools. One pool must fill up before it can overflow into the next. The seven pools are actually the 7 Dhatus (tissues) in Ayurveda. They work in sequential order and are:
Why Hormonal Healing Takes Time Many women ask why it takes so long to see changes in their reproductive health or cycle regularity. The Dhatu system gives us the answer. Shukra (or Artava in women) is the very last layer to be nourished. Because it is the final "pool" in the sequence, in Ayurveda, it is understood that it can take about 30 to 35 days for the food you eat today to reach and nourish your reproductive tissues. This is why reproductive hormones take time to heal. You must first nourish your plasma, blood, muscle, fat, bone, and nervous system before your body has the "surplus" required to support Shukra dhatu.
