Drinking or Eating Fibre?

Hello Reader

Last week I talked to you about simplifying health. But what if things became too simple in that it becomes ineffective?

I went to a food festival recently and aside from eating good food, I saw a variety of food vendors there. One of which I saw was selling a drink that gives you your daily fibre. I will not mention the brand, but I am sure you have seen them around either in the grocery stores or on your social media feeds. Now, my question to you is that are these drinks really helping? Or are they an overpriced fad? And what does it do to hormonal health?

Borrowing Science

As a Nutritionist and PhD researcher, I regularly audit the science behind commercial health products. When I check the ingredients or even the science behind the marketing, it is often very disappointing.

Most of these trendy functional drinks, powders, and supplements are not actually effective. If you look closely at their clinical claims, the companies rarely invest the money to test their final product in an independent, peer-reviewed clinical trial. Instead, they rely heavily on the research of others.

They look up existing, independent studies on an isolated ingredient (like a specific extracted chicory root or synthetic prebiotic fibre) and say something along the lines of "Study X shows this fibre supports gut health" Whilst simultaneously highlighting that their drink contains this fibre. And clever marketing leads you to believe that this drink is scientifically proven to fix your gut.

This is a massive logical and biochemical leap. When you isolate a single nutrient and strip it away from the complex matrix of real food, your body does not process it the same way. Synthetic or heavily processed fibre drinks can cause sudden fermentation in the gut, leading to severe bloating, gas, and an imbalance in your microbiome.

If you are looking to supplement your healthy eating regimen with a fibre containing drink, be sure to consult a nutritionist or health expert first. Some of the products are legit, whilst most are not.

Why Nothing Beats Real Food and Real Living

For your hormones to thrive, nothing beats the foundational work of real, healthy eating and conscious living.

When you eat a whole food, like a crisp apple, a bowl of lentils, or a plate of leafy greens, you are not just getting fibre. You are getting a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and water that works synergistically. This slow, natural breakdown of food keeps your blood sugar stable, prevents insulin spikes, and gives your liver the specific raw materials it needs to process and eliminate excess hormones.

A processed drink cannot replicate the intelligence of nature. Trying to achieve hormonal peace through overpriced functional beverages while living a high-stress, sleep-deprived life is like putting premium petrol into a car with a broken engine. The foundation must be repaired first.

Rebuild Your Foundation: The 7 Dhatu Series

If you are ready to stop chasing expensive fads and want to understand how your body truly processes nourishment from the inside out, I invite you to my exclusive email series - The 7 Dhatus for Hormonal Health.

In Ayurveda, the body is made up of seven distinct tissue layers (Dhatus). Think of your nutrition like a series of seven interconnected pools. The food you eat today cannot magically jump straight to fixing your reproductive system. It must first nourish your plasma (Rasa), your blood (Rakta), your muscles (Mamsa), and travel through each subsequent layer before it can ever reach your reproductive tissues (Shukra).

Inside this comprehensive series, we explore:

  • The 35-Day Biological Timeline: A deep look into the science of why it takes roughly over a month for the food you eat today to actually affect your hormonal health and why "quick fixes" are biologically impossible.
  • Layer-by-Layer Support: Exact nutritional and lifestyle anchors to strengthen each individual tissue layer so that vitality can flow easily to your endocrine system.
  • Proactive Self-Management: How to read the physical signs your body gives you when a specific layer is blocked by Ama (metabolic impurities).

Let’s step away from the noise of the wellness industry and return to the deep, evidence-based wisdom that actually respects your health.

Health and Happiness,

Hello Reader How are you? If you are here in the UK, I hope you are enjoying the heat! The Californian in me absolutely loves the sunshine, but even for me, there are times when it feels too hot to read or write. Today, I am writing to you from a lovely coffee shop on my local high street. It is nice and refreshing in here, and thankfully, the AC (or "air con" as the Brits call it!) isn't on full blast, which is just perfect. As I sit here with my laptop, I wanted to share an update about my...
